Description:

Brooke is very attentive and responsive to her foster family. She ‘talks’ and ‘listens’ to us with her big brown eyes. She and my two cats have established satisfactory boundaries, if not rapport. She’s excited to ‘go for a ride ‘ in the car. She’s content to go into her crate when I leave the house. At night she sleeps blissfully on her bed on the floor next to my bed. She loves chasing and retrieving her ball outside. She has developed a more gentle game of ‘ball’ for inside. She loves to run in the woods and swim in the lake up north.

Brooke was given up by her previous owner because of problems with a second dog— her brother. She was considered to be dog reactive and so was hard to place with a foster, given that most fosters have a least one dog of their own. Brooke spent almost a year in boarding, where she became a favorite with the volunteers and staff. When I came along as a new potential foster without a dog of my own, Brooke became my first foster.

Brooke is reactive to other dogs and people. With the help of the trainer at LDDR, she has been slowly learning calmer more positive reactions. Her new owner needs to be willing and able to continue the training while managing her environment. LDDR training classes are free for adopters to continue with Brooke after adoption. Brooke should be the only dog in the home. A home with young children would also not be appropriate for Brooke. She would do best with a fenced in yard where she can safely play ball . Though she walks nicely on the leash, she needs to be kept far enough away from triggers - like a charging dog behind an invisible fence. Brooke is a special dog who needs a special owner who will continue to work with her training and give her the time she needs to settle in.

*Brooke is part of the Rf Litter

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
