Lief is an adorable Terrier/Retriever mix-possibly even the potential of some type of Hound.  Overall, he has the brindle coat of a terrier, mixed with the longer and oily coat of a retriever. He has the body shape of a terrier or pointer, but the size more of a pointer or retriever. His ears are more of a retriever or pointer, but his face is more terrier. He has extreme intellect, which is common in a mix, and he has the running desires of some hounds and pointers. He also enjoys retrieval and digging like a retriever and terrier. He is very gentle and loving, and an adorable ball of energy. He has a wonderfully emotional face and uses his  oversized  ears to put emphasis on his expressions.

Leif is extremely intelligent and very quickly learning all of the manners to becoming the perfect loving pet. He just finished up house training and does not go to the bathroom in his crate. Within a day he has learned sit, lie down, and is developing an understanding of stay. He is also learning the command for going to bed. He loves fetch and to play with other dogs. He is also good with cats. He will demonstrate curiosity, but it is extremely easy to change his focus and get him doing the correct thing, such as chew a toy in his bed versus sniff at the cat. He is learning how to take walks and we highly recommend a head harness for continued obedience and ease as it immediately controls his excited pulling.

Leif isn’t going to get much larger in size, but he is going to fill out as he grows. He needs to gain some weight and will probably reach about 60 lbs or so in the end. He would do wonderful in a home with children or anyone who would love to give him tons of cuddling and exercise.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes. We appreciate you stopping by.
