Description:

Hi, I’m Bear. I am a sable-colored Labrador Retriever mix. I am a big, soft, silky bundle of fur. I’m looking for a family with kids, because I love to play with them. If we’re playing out in the yard, I won’t come in until the kids are ready. Another doggy sibling wouldn’t hurt either. I get lonely and would appreciate the company when the family is away from the house.

I currently live with a foster brother so other dogs are OK once I’ve met them properly. My foster brother and I like to hang out in the yard sunning ourselves while we watch for squirrels. I tend to have issues with dogs that act excited, bark, growl or run at me (usually behind a fence). So I need some help with my manners when we’re out walking by these types of dogs. I forget that just because they’re acting crazy, I don’t need to respond in the same manner.

This summer I was introduced to swimming and I LOVE IT!! My foster family goes up north and no matter how late we get there on a Friday night (usually after 10pm), my foster mom usually finds me in the lake after she’s done unloading the car. If I could, I’d spend the whole weekend in the water.

What other important things do you need to know about me? I’m housetrained and have never been in a crate. I mind very well. I can sit, lie down and shake on command. I also come when I’m called. I walk well on a leash. Last Thanksgiving, I weighed 147 lbs., so as you can see from my stats above, I’ve lost a lot of weight. Now I have a lot of energy and love to go for long walks every day. I also love to have my head scratched and my belly rubbed. In the evenings, (when I get permission) I climb on the couch and snuggle with my foster mom and dad.

I do have a minor medical issue that will need to be monitored for the rest of my life. I have hypothyroidism which is kept under control by taking a small pill every morning. I was also severely obese, but now have my ideal weight in my sights. If you adopt me before I’ve reached my weight loss goal, it’s very important that you help me accomplish this so I can live a long, healthy and happy life.

If you think I would fit in your family, please fill out an adoption application. If you have any questions, you can email my foster mom at lddr.jennifer@gmail.com

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
